Executive Director Selected for Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance

WALLA WALLA, WA-   The Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance announced Heather Unwin as Executive Director for the valley’s membership organization representing over 150 winery, vineyard, and partner members. Unwin replaces Duane Wollmuth who tragically passed away in July of 2016.

No stranger to the Walla Walla Valley, Unwin has given wine marketing courses for the Walla Walla Community College Enology and Viticulture program since 2015. Unwin’s résumé includes 20 years of management and ten years of wine industry experience. She previously served as Executive Director for the Red Mountain AVA Alliance, a similar non-profit membership organization.

“We are enthusiastic to announce this appointment,” said Muriel Kenyon, Board President of the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance. “Heather brings a tremendous amount of leadership, wine knowledge, and marketing experience to her new position, and we believe she will be a great asset to both our organization and our valley’s wine industry.”

"I feel privileged to take on the mantle, to nurture and build on the Alliance's successes, and I'm excited to look to the future and to new opportunities,” said Heather Unwin, Executive Director of the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance. “The collaborative nature of this community combined with the outstanding winemaking talent, extraordinary vineyards, vibrant culture and unparalleled natural beauty make this a dream position."

As Executive Director of the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance, Unwin will work in conjunction with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plans. In addition to general operations, she will be responsible for the financial success of the organization, collaboration with other community stakeholders, event management, member relations, and awareness of public policy affecting the wineries and growers of the Walla Walla Valley. Unwin’s first day will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
